On February 22 FFA (Future Farmers of America) held their second annual auction.

All the money that was raised at the auction goes towards the FFA program and events during the year.

“We use this to raise all the money for all the FFA things we do throughout the year. We attend a national convention in Indianapolis, we also go to the state FFA convention in Springfield for three days and we do various contests,”  said adviser Kelly Weiman.

Being a part of the FFA auction and learning how it works is not all these students learn about.

“The kids that take my class learn a ton of life skills. They have learned simple things like job interviewing and building resumes to things like trying different kinds of milk in our dairy unit and how to cut up a chicken in our poultry unit,” said Weiman.

With the school year beginning to wind down, students and teachers have begun making plans for next year, including offering new classes for the 2018-2019 school year.

There will be an animal science class, a plant science class, an intro to agriculture class, and an agricultural business class offered next year along with the current courses from this year.

FFA raised $8,000 this year from the auction, enough to cover the trip to the state convention.

If you’re interested in being a part of FFA, all that is required of you is being in an agriculture class.
