The wrestling team started their season in mid October but is now coming to an end. There were nighteen students  on the team this year; one senior, four juniors, five sophomores, and nine freshman.

Blake Peter, sophomore, has wrestled for six years but is not sure if he wants to continue wrestling once he goes off to college. Peter hopes he can aim for State Qualification.

“Heading to state will be the main thing I aim for next year;  hopefully I can keep my record up and not get pinned all year,” said Peter.

Joeavanny Marquez, the only senior, has wrestled for two years, previously at Beardstown High School. Marquez is not going to continue wrestling in college next year. Marquez stated that his strongest quality during this year was staying determined during his matches.

Coach Phil Neally plans to focus on conference champs and regional titles for his team.

“We will be doing a lot of off season training, [like] weights, open mat, and off season tournaments [leading up to next year],” said Neally.

The team ended up with a 227-338 record and 1,691 team points in total.
